The Importance of Taking a Break

Did you take a look around yet? Yes. I have a new website. All thanks to Misty Burrell Green from EmBeance. Misty is a friend of mine who is a fellow spiritual boss lady, just like me. I believe we met back in 2017 (I think she gave me a twin flame reading), I JUST moved to the Atlanta area. We are very kindred spirits, and what I would like to call business twin flames. We have similar businesses and have been in the marketing industry for over 10 years, I think Misty has been in it for 18 years. This is called collaboration over competition. We are technically competitors, but we don’t see each other this way. People like us are meant to bring the world together, to help the collective. Remember divided, we fall, united we are strong.

Taking a Break

I did something somewhat unintentional last week, which was to take a slight break from my business. I did a time audit in my business, and I realized that A LOT of my time was spent doing a lot of what I would like to call busy work (outreach on LinkedIn, responding to emails, etc) not on client work and strategy. Which is what I would rather be doing. Once I realized where all of my time is being spent, I wanted to make sure that everything was still flowing on LinkedIn and everywhere else. So, I recently hired another person to handle all of that. This is such a game-changer for me as I realized that I really can’t do it all myself.

Asking for Help

As spiritual entrepreneurs, we are constantly working with our egos. More importantly, how to set that ego aside to achieve something greater than ourselves. When you ask the universe what you want, and you speak your truth out loud, you will get it back tenfold.  Sometimes that means asking for help. I actually wanted a brand change last year and I meant to change my website last year. I sort of did, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I experimented with my website and made it work for me, but I knew I had to change website templates (Wix to SquareSpace) in order to rank in Google. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I started talking to people about transferring my website. I was looking to outsource this work overseas to be honest, but it wasn’t until I spoke to Misty that I realized my website could be more.

As marketers/entrepreneurs/empaths/people, we tend to overextend ourselves in order to serve others. We often tear ourselves apart in order to serve, which is really bad but it’s true. We beat ourselves up when something doesn’t go exactly how we want it and we can’t help ourselves cause it’s in our nature. Setting boundaries is so important as empathic entrepreneurs, but we also need to ask for help, more importantly, take breaks to avoid burnout. We live in the age of “hustle culture” where burnout is just downright encouraged. The need to constantly create content in the information age is so prevalent that burnout is essentially the end product. There are a number of YouTubers that had to take breaks from creating content a couple of years ago. We need to start taking breaks as entrepreneurs, as people, and as a society.

What I Learned

I watched my first scripted drama TV show in almost two years, Big Little Lies, on Hulu during my break and it was fantastic. It was actually quite refreshing taking a break from the normal content I consume, which is either work-related or just some random unscripted YouTube videos on my daily walks. I took a deep breath and finally started paying for my own self-improvement. I invested in a few coaches, a business coach, a dating coach, and a trauma healer. I learned quite a bit from all of them. One thing I learned is that I overthink. I really do overthink a lot of situations, projects or things that I do sometimes. It causes quite a bit of anxiety at times and as a former people pleaser, it used to stress me out whenever I see anyone not super pleased with anything I do. I guess that goes back to my childhood though, just not being good enough for anything.

Letting It Go

I learned to let all of it go. One of my coaches, Sharon Gutierrez, taught me a beautiful Hawaiian saying called Ho’oponopono it means “I’m Sorry, Please Forgive Me, Thank You,I Love You”.  It’s so beautiful and powerful in letting anything go in your life. I also love to do a full moon ritual every single month to bring in the new and let go of the old. I tell the moon every single month what I want and what I am willing to let go of. Whether it’s my old limiting beliefs, my old doubts, fears, or just my old website. I have started to journal my feelings a lot more and stopped holding everything back inside of that journal. It’s so much healthier for me and I started noticing things manifest for me when I journal as well.

I am not perfect. No matter what I say on my social media. I try my best to present myself as authentic as possible, but I realize that vulnerability is scary. Putting myself out there is really scary, but that’s the price you pay for being an entrepreneur marketing yourself on social media. Creating space for yourself and others is important. Allow the space for yourself to be a space for your self-care. Baths, getting your nails done, journaling, massages (if you can), sleep, cooking, whatever you like to do. Don’t resist the need for self-care, your body and mind will tell you when you need it.

Tune in for my lives on Facebook every single Thursday at 6:00 pm est, (this week is going to be Sunday cause, you know life took over) where I talk about how to take care of yourself as a spiritual entrepreneur as well as digital marketing tips!
